Let's be honest, we're extremely "kind" to people using stuff like p5's noise() function, or other algorithms they barely understand. Dmitri actually understood what he was doing and let's also not diminish the work of turning a graphic design study into long form genart.

Plus, similar to Truchet tiling, Armin Hofman wasn't the only one who independently came up with this system. I honestly think people are making a way bigger deal about Ringers _because_ it was successful (as a long form project, not a gfx design study), than other "inspired" algorithms.

There's also the part, and it may not matter to you, but it does to me, if you look closely at Armin's images, you see that a couple of them could not have been generated by Ringer's algorithm, so Dmitri definitely did some original work there, polishing the algorithm.
