1/ Let’s Talk About Expectations in the DEGEN Community As we continue building DEGEN together, I think it’s important to address something fundamental: what we should expect from one another. Right now, DEGEN is one of the only platforms where someone can earn hundreds of dollars with almost no authentic engagement—just by reposting low-effort or spammy content. Platforms like Google Ads or Twitter would never allow that kind of behavior to be monetized, and it raises an important question for us as a community: why should we?

I don’t envy you all at all. I’ve been fighting spam and slop since my first days as a mod on Farcaster and in my own channels. Every time I provide incentives, someone inauthentic shows up. I can manage it because my community is small. I can’t imagine how much work it is at scale. I just ask for clear rules. Tell us what not to do and the community will enforce it. We are really good at guidelines. When there are no true guidelines, we get 91% of active users with Spam labels. We have too many non native English speakers here. We can’t just say “be authentic”. We need concert examples of what is not kosher so they can learn. If they don’t learn, that’s no longer on you.

I couldn't have said this better Pichi. A clear set of guidelines would help community owners and members alike to adjust and do what is right. Without these guidelines, how do you even know you're doing wrong, apart from the obvious spamming?

here's my very uninformed 2¢ having seen $degen drop around this time last year and have my eyes widened substantially thereafter… 1. recommended auto-mod w/ norms / expectations / peer-controls 2. how do you align incentives so there's symmetrical value creation? 3. two yellow cards and a redcard violation - penalty box policy @jacek would be happy to have a dc offline if you're interested in hearing me expand on any of the above, ser.

Exactly đź’Ż So many people here are from other languages, and when they want to make interactions, they normally use small and simple sentences... And if they use Ai or Google Translate to tell what are in their mind, then they'll be known as spammy again! Trying to learn community is harder and needs more time, but it's more sustainable in the long term.
