So apparently Japan changed their money over the summer and I almost lost it at the ATM and had to stand there googling it like an idiot to make sure I wasn’t crazy. Top is new. I’m loving the wave on the back. Can’t wait to get more change and see what the other notes look like in person. Japan used to be very cash heavy, covid helped accelerate touch-less credit cards but most small businesses and temples are still cash. It’s strange because IC cards (electronic transit cards) are useable at most vending machines so I’m always caught off guard when I can’t pay with it and thrilled when I can unexpectedly. Now that I can reload my card with Apple Pay I rarely go to the ATM.

I barely use cash these days, and I'm still not used to the new bills, so I get confused every time I pay.😇😇

I stood there in shock for 5 minutes. I completely missed that this was happening!

Since the bills are still new, we have to be careful not to accidentally hand over two stuck together😀😀
