I've heard it's mostly the shorter people who hit their head in places like this, because they're less used to ducking. I've got a whole technique when walking through danger zones where I put my hand on my forehead and put my fingers up so I can feel if I'm about to hit my head on something. This sort of thing doesn't even occur to people who haven't had to deal with it their whole lives, which makes sense.
