I was aware that Arbitrum is leading DeFi TVL but wasn't aware of this huge lead.

will be interesting to see when zksync incentives start and liquidity will move

I suspect zkSync will struggle to start a good incentives program. 

I'm not getting the vibe the seeds are there for a strong defi ecosystem. 

It's mostly tier2 forks, and little community cohesion. Poor liquidity. Nothing to wet the degen appetite.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but I foresee it will take time.

100%, defi is mostly forks, trx and address counts are inflated because of farming. 
only hope i see is around Lens, creating its own chain on top of zksync, riding the DeSocial narrative and bringing much needed engagement to the chain.  Similar to farcaster <> Base
