Is cohort retention just a fancy word for "repeat buyers" or "loyal customers"?

I did. I wonder if a good rule of them is to only take advice from autobiographies from entrepreneurs from the 1800's and early 1900's who built companies that lasted > 30 years. Books that use more human terms like "loyal customers", rather than "cohort analysis".

i really don't understand the point here is it that cohort analysis isn't a valuable tool, or that the person who made the video isn't a good source of information, or both?

Sorry, to answer your question I don't think cohort analysis is a valueable tool. If you focus on serving your customers well, you don't need it.

I did YC with bump. I have a lot of respect for the person in the video. I disagree with the content. Just treat your customers like you'd want to be treated, be great at your craft, whistle at your job everyday, and your customers will be loyal customers for life. No need to complicate things with academic terms.
