Do you have examples of gate keeping beyond the two IRL events you mentioned? 

Events have limited capacity so I can understand why those would need some level of gate keeping. 

But other than that most of warpcast is open, esp. the farcaster protocol

Nothing else specific. I haven't had the opportunity to dig very deep into the protocol yet. For me personally, I like to meet the community face to face before investing too much in the tech. Those relationships matter and IMHO they can only be established & cultural knowledge transmitted effectively in person.
