GNU Stow; used for creating symlinks that you can use to backup dotfiles. I've avoided it for a long time, but after watching this video I got a bit more confidence to give it another shot. It's confusing as hell but not too bad once you wrap your head around it https://youtu.be/NoFiYOqnC4o?si=sU7ljg6ei1lk2pwQ

Depends! I think it's a bit of a niche use case as some people do this to help backup their dotfiles in a git repository, and other do it just to help share on github how their system is setup (for the ricing nerds). Personally I'm about to switch to a new computer and wanted to take this approach for migrating settings, so I might only actually use it once in a few years ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ

well i'm glad you posted about it regardless cause I hadn't heard about it! I just have a dotfiles github with a opaque readme that has just enough info for me to setup on new machines what are you switching to?

Yeah same here, this is also so I can experiment with keeping envs in my configs but experiment with a secrets manager so everything comes over at once, granted I migrate the keypair to unlock them. We'll see how this goes lol. Going from an M1 to an M4; very excited ๐
