Does anyone know how the mechanism of drainers works? Do you give them approval for all the tokens in your wallet when you sign? Can they also withdraw from defi e.g. aave? What about L2s?

Only works upon approval and only affects the gas token of the chain you’re on so ERC-20 tokens won’t get affected but ETH will
