I don't understand chain vs root. Isn't the root part redundant? And isn't ...:ethereum:11155111 contradictory?

Good catch. I didn't want to get too deep into the specifics in that cast but you're right that my Base example was redundant. The root part only needs to be used when the ENS name is deployed on a chain other than Ethereum Mainnet. For example, "example.eth:optimism:10" would check on the ENS registry on Optimism itself
