Not so cool, old and vintage as the other machines I am seeing on this thread, but my first computer was a 486 DX 33 (not the one in the picture, but similar. no CDRom, no soundcard).
In the day I opened the box I didnt have any software or game, only the MS-DOS to play with. So I spent the day following the MS-DOS manual 😅 (create new directory, erase directory, ... ).

I guess that the first lines of code where following a book teaching BASIC to kids (cannot remember the title, but it was a space adventure and then you needed to code some small programs to solve problems in the space ship).

Nice, my first proper PC was a 386 DX2 66. It was a phenomenal acquisition. I was on it all night and all day, playing games (Sim City) and making music, Cakewalk + AWE32 soundcard. I also spent a lot of time and wrestling with the config.sys and autoexe.bat files 😆

I also remember the ARJ commands, too 👍 

I think within a month of receiving my machine i did something with config.sys that made it impossible to boot. I had to create a boot disk to sort the issues out. Having spent the money I'd saved for a year on the computer, i was very nervous that I had messed something up. In those days there was no internet to look things up and I tried some tinkering based from knowledge I picked up in magazines. It was thrill to finally boot the machine from C drive after a days work and I felt like a real computer hacker after that! 😆 . You learn real fast when necessity is knocking on your shoulder (or you want to have an all night Sim City session again)

I also remember that than at some time we had games that needed several floppy disks, and we needed to compress the files with ARJ commands (not real code, but at the time for me typing the commands lines make me feel like a hacker 😅 ).
Also remember to make autoexe.bat files to that would execute the ARJ commands
