Twitter is basically turning into a kind of online brownshirts operation. Whether or not you agree with his criticisms of government spending, an unelected intimidation platform run by a billionaire running parallel political pressure racket in support of a ruling party is really, really bad for civil society. This is how the BJP-affiliated orgs wield influence in India and it’s not pretty. At this point if you continue to use Twitter for your broadcast comms needs even for “apolitical” things, you’re aiding and abetting brown-shirtery. Spin up alt broadcast channels and get off twitter. If it’s going to be a brownshirt platform, let it be nakedly, unambiguously so, with no cover from more innocent stalking-horse uses. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/27/business/elon-musk-government-employees-targets/index.html

Ooof. Thank you for the international context and pointing out the bjp parallel Also the Vivek dynamic will be one to watch “Ramaswamy did not directly respond to questions about singling out individual federal employees but told CNN: “Most federal employees, like most human beings, are fundamentally good people and deserve to be treated with respect, but the real problem is the bureaucracy.””
