It seems to me this is a good example of that “tech-bro Utopianism” that critics are fond of slinging around, but without actually positing *why* it fails to solve the problem, or why there’s never an amicable discussion afterwards.

The “problem” if you want to call it that is that it’s become an engineering question, and the solution focuses on a specific system and optimized for a local maximum.

Which is great, except for the tendency to wipe your hands, call it a day and sell it to the highest bidder. Because doing maintenance and big-fixes sucks.
