I think the reason for this absolute hatred of crypto is that the predominant modern leftist mindset depends on a belief in governance making everything better

how to fix healthcare? more government involvement 

how to fix income inequality? more government involvement

crypto is an oil and water situation when it comes to this mindset

one of the most OBVIOUS governmental duties is issuing currency 

crypto being legitimate would mean that this, a basic core use case of governments, is outperformed by the free market

it's easier to block out the possibility of this being true than to adjust your fundamental worldviews

as someone who is pretty far left for crypto, I would say from a regular citizen standpoint the hatred comes from the kind of people they associate with crypto. asshole bros who only care about money etc

yeah it’s no different from anything else - if it doesn’t concern them then they’re likely not to dig deeper. people just go “no tax on overtime? ok cool” 

I obviously agree it’s a good thing but I haven’t exactly found their assumptions unfounded about the user base as a whole hahah

that's a fair point and as someone who loves making fun of the industry I can understand people that do the surface level scan and think it's a joke

but if you're intellectually curious at all it's hard for me to forgive not being able to recognize that the core innovation (money without government) is pretty special
