I love @dwr.eth and co, but I'd rather hold off until we have something that is end-to-end encrypted. I also think that to get ecosystem-wide adoption, it should be federated, someone using one messenger should be able to talk to people using other messengers.

You could build an e2e encryption layer on top of the Farcaster protocol. Honestly, I think Farcaster is the right balance between decentralization and usability.
