I love @dwr.eth and co, but I'd rather hold off until we have something that is end-to-end encrypted. I also think that to get ecosystem-wide adoption, it should be federated, someone using one messenger should be able to talk to people using other messengers.

Pls see @xmtp @shanemac.eth that I previously mentioned in private especially your second point. Message portability already exists across XMTP clients and eventually inside apps too. Thatโ€™s a big aha.

Hey @shanemac.eth @polmaire.eth does Converse support XMTP group chats yet? I'm still not seeing them, but also I haven't seen any app updates in three months. I feel like we're *so close* to magical encrypted web3 messaging utopia. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿฆ„

Matrix + Matrix bridges. Although I think the e2e story in Matrix is not that clear cut, there are some compromises on the group chat e2e

It is all messaging protocols anyway right? A universal standard messaging protocol thatโ€™s end to end encrypted should be easy to build, itโ€™s getting everyone to agree on the fork ;)

You could build an e2e encryption layer on top of the Farcaster protocol. Honestly, I think Farcaster is the right balance between decentralization and usability.
