I'm an absolute sucker for airline status. I've invested more money and time than I'd like to admit into trying to hit status tiers. This is an example of gamification working very well on me.

Took a 10+ hour, 2 layover trip from SFO to Toronto on United versus a single ~5 hour direct flight on Air Canada. This was near the end of the year and I needed a certain number of PQP to hit the next United status for the following year. No regrets!
