Definitely an early start and something like a record 50,000 people crowded around Waimea Bay to watch. When I got this shot, around 2 PM, I decided to call it a day. Think I left my Waikiki condo around 3 or 4, and I didn’t want to get stuck in traffic with that many people on a two-lane road. 🤙🏼💙🏄♂️

Ha ha ha… I would have loved to see the final heat and the winning wave, but I was falling asleep on the drive home as it was. I was also parked two miles from Waimea Bay, so I’d hiked there at 5 in the morning, and knew I still had to hike all the way back. The guys running the parking were sitting, drinking beer and watching the traffic still heading to Waimea Bay. When I walked up, I asked if they had one for me, and they gave me a chair and grabbed me a beer. Sat and /talkstory for a little while before I drove home (away from the traffic).
