What a super rare experience... back to my hotel for our last night on the Big Island, but this was definitely worth the trip. I will never get tired of watching the eruptions of Kilauea!

When we were on Kauai last month, I wasn't quite up for miles of hiking... so we missed one of my favorite beaches, a spot for Hawaiian monk seals and Honu. For the most part, Honu are acclimated to people but when you get to the neighbor islands, there are still some wild places where they will head to the ocean at the first sight of a person. When I startled this Honu from an afternoon nap, I moved away, but it still raced back to the ocean. One last look at me on my perch, snapping this portrait. When I visit Ke'e Beach, I'm often looking forward to the amazing waves crashing on the reefs there, and the beautiful lines of the cliffs disappearing into the distance down the Na Pali coastline. Sometimes, you get a surprise instead, with low tide creating a beautifully still pool inside the reef for this reflection shot.

Happy Aloha Flower Friday... I went back for a different angle on the Ti flowers during my December trip to Kauai, using the 200-500mm lens to get a step back, which changes both the depth of field and the angle allowed me to capture different color, without my shadow falling into the frame. On the left, my 20mm shot; on the right, the 200-500mm shot.

A super rare early shot of RL74 from just before the pandemic… she doesn’t have a nickname because she wasn’t born on Oahu, but showed up at less than a year old on the North Shore. That would put her on track to potentially have her first pup later this year.

1/3 Waking up early on Christmas morning brings a different kind of surprise… minted my second rodeo, but no raffle on this one, as the memory card failed and these images are lost to time.
