ITAP of Sadie resting at the waterline. Hawaiian monk seals don’t thermoregulate very well, being true seals with a thick fur coat in Hawaii’s waters. While resting on the beach, they lay at the waterline, allowing waves like this one to cool them off.

A super rare moment when a Hawaiian monk seal pup was born on a Waikiki beach for the first time in recorded history… typically mothers birth on remote beaches, and Rocky had her first nine pups near where she was weaned on Kauai. In 2017, the Year of the Hawaiian Monk Seal, she had Kaimana in Waikiki.

One of those super rare times when I ran a sunrise and island tour, and the whole group of us got soaked by a sudden rain storm passing over… as we got back to the van, this rainbow broke over the ocean. I told the group I only got them wet so they could see the rainbow.
