Me, when I get a look at my niece’s stash of Halloween candy… she doesn’t eat it, but just hoards it. She still has candy left from last year. I think I have to work with her on the concept of “sharing” this year, don’t you?

A super rare moment when two Hawaiian monk seal brothers were playing in the water together. Here, the younger brother Kahuluokalae (on the left, a few moths old) snaps back at Holokai (right, three years old). Monk seals don’t seem to recognize familial relationships, so this unique situation was because the older seal was still hanging out near where he was born almost three years later, and with his younger brother born near his birth beach, the two quickly crossed paths.

I caught a pretty spectacular sunset from South Ferry, with Lady Liberty off on the horizon just before the @station3nyc event last Thursday night. Glad I got an early start and brought my gear to see what the sky would do.

ITAP of a sunrise rainbow at Sandy Beach Park while leading a sunrise and island photo tour a few years ago. We had just gotten a dramatic sunrise with the storm clouds on the horizon, and then the rain was on us before we could get back to the van. With everyone soaked, I insisted that was all part of the experience to catch the rainbow out over the ocean. I didn't get any complaints from the tour group!

A super rare shot of my wife and I, behind the camera, shooting together. This shot was taken by someone as they walked by us and thought we would like a photo together on such a beautiful day. It also happens to be the day that I captured my Ke’e Tower wave, which was the print I posted earlier today.

A super rare moment captured… the infamous “Thar she blows” is called out as a whale breaks the surface alongside the boat. While often referred to as a whale’s spout, this is actually the high-speed exhalation of a humpback whale, and the spray you see is a result of the water that was on the whale’s blowhole being atomized due to the speed of the air being pushed out. This blow can be seen against Maui’s blue ocean water from a long distance, making it the best way to spot a whale swimming in Hawaii’s waters.

ITAP of an epic whale breach while out with Pacific Whale Foundation... I like to joke that it took me over 100 whale watches to capture this shot, and I have the receipts to prove it. The first whale of the season was spotted in Hawaii waters over the weekend, marking the beginning of a trickle migration that will peak between January 15th - February 15th. Have a whale of a Wednesday!
