Brazilian music is innovative. I think we are going to see increasingly more of it's influence in US pop music. Anitta with a feature on the recent Weeknd sample (called Sao Paulo lol) feels like a big step. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kjolTLZ_Mg) Anitta also has a song feat. Sam Smith on her most recent album. A Sam Smith/Ed Sheeran feature is often a good indicator that something is headed towards more recognition in "western pop music". Can't really talk about this without mentioning the Future feature on Bum Bum Tam Tam in 2018(!). Which also featured J Balvin and Stefflon Don. Would be fun to see funk/carioca follow the path of reggaeton and more recently corridos in getting more love from the US and Europe.

a: Baile Funk has been successfully present in pop music for years now b: this track is an awful example, its the most generic beat slapped onto the track by Mike Dean, not a Brazilian producer, reducing the culture to a cheap sample and a single rhythmic pattern in the hands of the richest artists on this planet. this is not representation c: USA and Europe aren't the center and shouldn't be

a: sort of agree. for how vibrant it is as a genre it still feels underrepresented in north american/asian/european pop music. I know of a handful of examples - but what am I missing? b: i agree :) and dont like the song. the second half is especially reductive. I highlighted it cuz it's a step onto a different stage for annita. fwiw I think the music she makes is pretty watered down too. Funk Generation was pretty weak - but clearly made for a broader audience. and in that sense, feels successful. c: agree! never suggested they were. I love funk/carioca/tecnomolody and feel it's bittersweet to see them get co-opted by US pop stars. in the end they come for everyone. but Im optimistic these sorts of shifts introduce more good music in the long run.
