What do 7-figure Web3 projects do that startups neglect? I’m no longer asking; I’m telling. For a start, I looked at Sonic Labs and analyzed its existing marketing channels/approaches. Why? Sonic went from $0 to👇 —> $643m in total value locked(TVL) and —> $2.884b in transaction volume … all within three months. While some may argue that they’re riding on their rebrand(from Fantom to Sonic). I think it’s impressive to be able to maintain user interest and traction after a rebrand. Here’s a summary of what I found out from researching Sonic Labs' marketing👇

✅ Optimize ownership experience. As a network, devs are integral for user adoption. If you want users happy, you need to keep devs happy. ✅ If you can’t build it alone, join forces with those who can. The people at the top are collaborating, honestly. Strategically encouraging collabs is good for the network infra.

✅IRL > URL. Word of mouth is the best marketing strategy. The fastest way to encourage that is to eat people in a room(IRL) and share your vision. ✅ Content is fuel; the more you have, the longer you’ll last. Great marketing knows that the engine(growth, structure, processes) needs fuel(content) to move fast. Content is king. ✅ Distribution matters. You’re responsible for how long your content lives. If you want it to live long, invest in distribution.

✅ When everyone has something to gain, everyone strives to make it work. Seth Godin advocates for starting marketing with a minimum viable audience in mind. That is the smallest group of people who can support a business. And of course, Sonic defines that MVA to be Devs. However, they offer rewards to early adopters to secure the interest of everyone who uses the network. In March, one of the things I’ll be doing is studying successful Web3 projects and sharing their marketing strategies. With this, I hope to educate Web3 marketers and inform startups on where to take growth-focused action. If you’d like to steal Sonic’s marketing strategy, I’ve written extensively on it via Medium.
