The avatar interoperability thesis. Ocarina of Time allowed Link to be renamed. How far off are we from Link himself being replaceable? What does it take? https://i.imgur.com/kwjKgCa.jpg

The saddest scariest part to me about this movement in media is how many people are going to want to see themselves in the movie or in the games.. How many people are going to opt into seeing themselves as the heroes of all the adventures they take instead of seeing other humans like we all once had before.

think i agree, but hadn't thought about this. personally have zero interest watching myself passively. imo, always a fun layer of immersion when you share an identity across realms. Gives you a chance to evaluate your integrity/values/actions relative to "yourself" in entirely novel situations and circumstances

should also say this is why I don't often find games I enjoy, too often the story is specific to a certain set of values/actions and there isn't a way to realign it in a way that is really meaningful/enjoyable. Guess that might be what makes it a game

I’ve had similar thoughts. Any values you’d like to explore in a game?

think your other response kinda hit on it: tabletop RPGs are often far more involved in the social minutia of situations including all that arises in the group dynamics of problem solving and teamwork. Seems to be a difficult thing to accomplish in digital medium

Nice! Thought you might given your responses. Watched over a thousand hours of D&D myself but still never actually played!

woah! that's a good amount of time, that might be about what I've clocked in playing over...maybe ten years. Do you have favorite groups that you watch on Youtube/Twitch?

Pretty much the famous stuff, as far as it goes. Originally watched a Netflix doc as intro, then found Acquisitions Incorporated. Enjoyed the early days of that and came across Critical Role in its first 6 months. Followed it about 8 years now and it’s kinda exploded. Understandably. They’re a talented bunch.

Time and friends really. I’d prefer to do it IRL but the friends who’d be interested either don’t live nearby or have too much family responsibility. Usual stuff. A shame we never knew of it meaningfully at school. My group of friends from then agree we’d have loved it. Video gamed a lot as it was.
