What do folks here think of the NFT mandatory vs optional royalty discussion currently going on?

Feels like FC is a much better place to have a conversation than on the blue app.

i've implemented EIP-2981, the royalties standard in contract, set manually in opensea, and used the manifold registry.

even for coded in contract, marketplaces still have to be willing to write the corresponding code to respect the standard and most don't.

hmm other issues with EIP-2981 are:

1. the documentation on how to implement is not very good / creator did not push (makes it hard to catch on)

2. older + popular nft projects you want your platform to support do not have it, so you have to implement a centralized solution

I think there's no incentive for marketplaces to share their custom data on projects between them (you always want the creators to come to you), and manifold seems as good of a neutral-ish place as any to host!

Thoughts on the manifold royalty registry for backwards compatibility?
