gm friends! Today I woke up to some false, negative (and imho, rude) comments from @frog and @jkm.eth on our candidate prop to double down on /nounspace. @krel signaled against too (sadly no feedback yet). I just responded and hope they'll reconsider (it doesn't seem like they actually read the prop yet, let alone tried the product). For those of you that have actually been following what the team and I have been working so hard on these past few months, would appreciate your support in refuting them. Would hate to see one of, if not the best opportunity available to /nouns (in my humble, biased opinion) abandoned due to a few false, negative takes. I'm gonna go ahead and post it here for anyone that's curious. Always happy to answer any questions, and would prefer open convos in public rather than jumping to literally the worst possible conclusions/accusations. Can also read it and their comments here: https://www.nouns.camp/candidates/double-down-on-nounspacewtf-06ae622bf2029db79bdebd38f723f1f33f95f6c5

gm @jkm.eth, @krel, and @frog. Surprised to hear all of this, but grateful to finally get some feedback/acknowledgement from you. I am disappointed to see so many negative and false assumptions though. I’m very interested in continuing development on nounspace and strongly believe it’s in the community’s best interest, so please allow me to address your points. Lmk if I missed any.

1. This project came about because the community wanted a fun Farcaster client A. Correct, which we’ve delivered the v0 of. Now, we are proposing that the community continue funding development of it.

2. Since it was completely funded by Nouns, I kind of feel like the project should belong to the community. A. The project does belong to the community :) it’s 100% open-source, nouns holders have the ability to mint “free” nOGs (as free as we can make them on Highlight), which not only grant earliest access, but free premium access for life, and they can earn actual ownership via $SPACE. Open to proposals for how to give nouns more ownership (don’t think $100k nor $400k should equate to 100% ownership though, nor do I think nouns should have 100% ownership). AFAIK we’re already building the most community-owned social app ever. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

3. I was quite shocked to see you sell NFTs instead of gifting them to Nouns holders. A. Once again, you must not have looked very closely or even asked chatgpt to summarize the prop for you. Nouns holders can mint for free on highlight, plus we sent multiple to pretty much everyone that acknowledged us. Even the full price NFTs are only 0.0111 ETH. We felt it was a fun, creative way to ramp early access while also rewarding our earliest supporters with free, premium access for life (not to mention other potential benefits). Also the NFTs are dope. Quite shocked to see you have such a negative, false impression of them. If you wanted some nOGs, you literally could have just asked (or minted for like $1). and guess what? despite all this negativity, the offer still stands.

B. Not only is there an onchain cost for each user that signs up for nounspace (initially $1, not $0.10), but we’re not ready to open the floodgates to everyone in our first 3.5 months of building and <2 weeks of being live. The NFTs enable us to cover our cost, generate revenue to validate our concept and fund further development, and start onboarding users and cultivating a community even prior to launch. We also wanted to start with a token gate/skin in the game to mitigate the risk of being flooded with bots/spam accounts that are hoping for $SPACE rewards, so tbh the nOGs get like 5 birds stoned at once. Despite that, you only had negative things to say about them. Interesting 😬

4. I was even more shocked when you then leveraged the reputation of the project to launch a token, 40% (!) of which goes to your team with nothing going to Nouns. A. First of all, I believe nounspace “leveraging” the nouns’ brand is one of the best things happening to nouns right now. You can call me biased, but you can’t argue that it not only has the potential to be, but is on an encouraging trajectory at the right time. Second, we leveraged our own reputations far more, and are a doxxed team with valuable reputations and networks. Third, 40% does not go to our team, although that is often the standard for many token launches. 0% went to the nounspace team up front. 20%, an equal amount as Capital Providers, Users, Developers, and the Community Treasury, gets emitted to the team as long as the community supports this. If the team sells their tokens, we have zero say in this, and if we’re not delivering, any recipients of tokens from the other buckets could easily remove us.
