Has anyone been reading up on EigenLayer? I want to be optimistic but it feels like a mistake given the current state of crypto with regulators. Any thoughts?

Rehypothecation sounds like exactly the kind of problem web3 solves

The “problem” is that web3 doesn’t have protocol level rehypothecation. I wouldn’t call it a real world problem but they get to be the first to solve it.

Why do I want my own network? Lower transaction costs?

From what I can tell, the use case that makes sense to me is to bootstrap your own POS network. A single Ethereum validator can validate transactions on multiple blockchains and use they ETH they staked as collateral for all of them. If they are validating Ethereum and XYZ, both would be able to slash the 32 ETH
