it was dogs tho (imo?) Roald used (and ate) dogs on the way to/fro he learned that from the natives in Greenland and Newfoundland iirc also i've got a small family connection to Roald! he was my great Grandma's cousin/uncle or something my side of the family moved to Washington from Norway and Finland and he would keep in touch with them, sent letters, pretty cool!

interesting!! i just read their story in last days specially about Ernest Shackleton Amundsen was the first one who explored the north and south! but the important part of his amazing win was about knowing how to work with dogs actually shackleton brought skis too, but he didn't succeed

read this gem while i was down there over wintering after a summer at the pole. still can not believe they existed on the polar plateau for that duration. differences in approach was staggering, and hubristic on scott's part. amundsen should be celebrated, scott gets all the modern day love. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/549488.The_Last_Place_on_Earth
