it was dogs tho (imo?) Roald used (and ate) dogs on the way to/fro he learned that from the natives in Greenland and Newfoundland iirc also i've got a small family connection to Roald! he was my great Grandma's cousin/uncle or something my side of the family moved to Washington from Norway and Finland and he would keep in touch with them, sent letters, pretty cool!

there's a story from when he was a teen and his younger brother and him went skiing and got caught in a storm they dug pits in the snow and managed to survive til morning I can't believe how scary that would be, and I live in the arctic too, so I know the feeling of creeping cold!
