Came across a fascinating piece by Eugenio Monti (a meteorologist and a climatologist, I read his takes on Windy newsletter) on a lesser-known side of climate change: global greening. Yes, CO2 is rising. Yes, temps are hitting records. But Monti highlights how some scientists—like Soviet climatologist Budyko—saw rising CO2 as a life-preserving force. More CO2 = more plant growth = potential boost in biodiversity. And it's happening: satellite data shows a 5% increase in global greenery over 20 years, even in Antarctica. Mosses are back on icy shores. But here’s the twist: much of this green surge is farmland, not forest. Soil degradation, monoculture, ecosystem loss. The green is real—but it's not always good. A must-read. Green Antarctica photo: Dan Charman
