What are the benefits of a game-specific token?

The only reason I can currently think of is immersion - I'd rather see WoW gold instead of ETH

If the tokens were pegged the same way Vbux or WoW gold are, I would agree. Mostly, they are just a grift.

I think a bunch of web3 games are wasting too much time and energy on "tokenomics" instead of the game. 

Again, I get it for immersion's sake, but I have a hard time thinking of other legit reasons.

this, tokens only make sense if they’re pegged to USD value, otherwise they quickly become inflated for speculative reasons (followed by being worth nothing once speculation phase is over)
