telegram isn't perfect and mostly isn't e2e encrypted - we get it (everyone remotely smart about this stuff has known this forever). doesn't mean durov deserves life in prison. doesn't mean TG isn't a powerful anti-authoritarian tool. perfect enemy of good.

Well, also that he drove people away from Signal through spreading FUD. That's crosses the line from "I'm doing my own thing the best I can" to "I'm making the world worse through my own lies and dishonesty"

He's not being judged for his qualities as a person, he's being judged as the CEO of a product that allowed illegal activities to happened and refused to do the single little thing to help preventing them. Don't worry though, in France there's no life prison. Max is 30 or 35 years.

Though telegram isn't e2e, it offers a feature called secret chat, which uses e2e encryption and destroys the message afterwards depending on users choosing.
