Potassium iodide pills are a no brainer to keep around as countries look to add to their nuclear arsenals in the wake of Trump <$20 USD, great gift, can be useful even with no other knowledge than duck and cover https://www.cdc.gov/radiation-emergencies/infographic/potassium-iodide.html

This is only effective vs your body absorbing radioactive fallout. It won’t help against the four types of radioactive emissions (alpha, beta, gamma, neutrons).

Yes, although your clothes can protect you from both alpha and beta. Gamma requires proper shelter made of lead etc. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK224057/#:~:text=Alpha%20radiation%20can%20be%20stopped,where%20radioactive%20materials%20are%20present.

Depends on the clothing. If you’re in a light sun dress with a design containing dark pigment, the design may be burned into your flesh by beta. I studied nuclear weapons effects in school. Beta particles are technically antimatter (anti electrons) so it would be a cool conversation starter. Alpha is just really hot helium 4. M Neutrons are blocked best by water. So reinforced concrete blocks both gamma and neutrons. And if you piss yourself in terror, just claim it was for added neutron shielding hahaha!

In my book on this they train u to quickly make shelters. It’s pretty interesting Curious — in the class, did they offer a perspective on the likelihood of nuclear winter?
