What do you think of all of the Ethereum drama? Are there real culture and leadership problems? Or is this just the community coming out with the pitch forks mainly because price hasn't done well vs competitors? context: https://x.com/econoar/status/1881609707007439306

Ethereum had a monopoly on the smart contract blockchain market 3 years ago. Now it's got substantial competition from Solana and other VMs. It's indeed wartime and I'm glad the community is pushing the EF to be more aggressive. CT is a rough place for this type of coordination though.

so much noise man - only thing I agree on is better co-ordination with L2s Teams like Base, Arbitrum, Abstract & Optimism are doing the heavy lifting publicly & this should feel inclusive instead of divisive The EF could be a good bridge here

i like crypto because there’s a coin and a chain for everyone. it’s not about winning, it’s about being able to fulfill a desired purpose i don’t want to see the casino brought from sol to eth, if that’s what people mean by winning. it’s great there. anyone can go participate, even if you made .eth your whole identity everyone should have a place where they can go fulfill their intentions with others who want the same thing, whether that’s building a platform, minting art, gambling, investing, or something else. it makes sense if each community has their own vibe and their own purposes so they can function more efficiently it’s great that @vitalik.eth has integrity and values and puts those first. that is why ethereum is so important people who think eth is losing are not likely being honest about their real values and ambitions. they may just have hurt egos because of bullish things they’ve said in the past, and want to go buy memecoins without it being awkward. i say just let them

A mixture of both, but it’s definitely time for a pivot within the EF. I really like @dcinvestor ‘s idea of spinning out the research arm into an “Ethereum Labs” and leave the EF for community/product focused initiatives

Hmm here's my attempt at a summary: Solana continues to get big brands and people to launch tokens on Solana. This drives attention, volume, and price increases. It's been happening long before Trump. Solana is winning at vision and culture this cycle (Base is a huge contender, but that's a L2, not Ethereum as a whole). So, people are upset that it appears Ethereum is going down a path of technical superiority, but no vision or culture, which will lead to no new people joining in. And this leads to price not going up. So, yes people are upset about price, but there's an underlying issue (culture/vision) that is being raised as the main reason.

I think it's coming to a head now because ETH price has felt so suppressed compared to the broader market but there are totally leadership problems/lack of leadership EF has been primarily focused on the technical upgrades and maintenance to the network, but people expect more from them. whether or not they should expect more is a different story I personally think the role of narrative building should fall more on the L2 networks, especially since being a network-hub is the direction Ethereum is going to me it feels like EF want's to have their cake and eat it too, in that they want to say "it's a permissionless decentralized network therefore other orgs should take up the mantle and push for adoption" while at the same time wanting to maintain authority over how the network grows

Yes there is real change necessary. But also yes price.. but price also shows the obvious issues. Hopefully they find a compromise. Personally after many years even solo staking eth. I enjoy using Solana more.

I think this part of the tweet captures it all: “After a few years of losing to competitors who want to rip our throats out and now reading the EF has an "anti-winning and competition mentality", I had countless DMs from people asking why they should stick around.” People are mad because they see others “gaining” ground on Ethereum and they’re mad that Ethereum isn’t taking a stance that is aggressive to others. I think somebody else already said it, but this wouldn’t be so loud if the price was going up. If Ethereum capitulates though it won’t reach its vision. Giving into the crowd who just wants to get rich won’t be good in the long term .
