Path of Exile 2 is such a fun game. Its dark setting makes it feel like a descendant of Diablo 1 and its more challenging combat system (compared to mainline Diablo) keeps you hooked and engaged. I love Diablo 4 but the way I play it, it feels like I'm more mindlessly going around just mashing buttons. Having to actively dodge and plan my attacks on Path of Exile 2 immerses me more into the world.

it's been very interesting to see how big companies, with all the distribution money can buy fail so hard at creating successful games it makes me wonder if passion is the ultimate moat

It feels similar to the movie industry when they just optimize for wider appeal so the depth and quality of the gameplay suffers. Also when they have such large budgets they lack focus and overall quality suffers. Cyberpunk 2077 suffered from this at launch. It was too ambitious so they released a half baked product.
