Am I the only one who feels a bit sad reading takes like "yeah, proxystudio made a big mistake in the past, but they were really good to me / my project / the ecosystem"? Feels like people are literally putting personal gain above the harm done to others.

Retrospectively, it looks like he paid the biggest price - losing his influential reputation and online identity. But at the time, I imagine the Velo team had it much worse. He wasn’t just another contributor; he was a team leader and a respected thought figure in the ETH community. So even though the funds were returned, the team likely faced a lot of difficulties. Also, what else could he do once he was traced to the crime and the team knew his legal name? Not sure if running out and hiding was an option with this amount of money

just filled myself in on the deets from https://warpcast.com/wagmialexander/0x8ffeaaab and yeah its bad. sounds like he was totally premeditated and willing to harm... as much as i wanna feel compassion/ hope people can change, trusting someone like this would be dumb
