a few months ago i had an exciting but overwhelming startup idea, and a few weeks ago i casually mentioned it to a dev i know from farcaster, and he said, “i want to build this with you.” it still feels unreal, but here we are. so i had a call today with a designer he was already working with (also from farcaster) — the first meeting just to get to know each other. i asked if they could turn on their camera, but they said no. “what’s the point of a first call if we can’t even see each other?” two minutes later, we agreed it wasn’t going to work. now, i’m curious: is it common in crypto to work with people who prefer to stay faceless? would you start a project with someone who refuses a video call? also, still looking for a designer

> is it common in crypto to work with people who prefer to stay faceless? if you work with North Korean devs, then yes

It is happening quite often in crypto btw! North Korean devs are applying to the interviews, contributing open-source and are trying to stay always anon

i can imagine that many of them are also very good?… i kind of understood this person today, no judgement or hard feelings at all, just i’m not this kind of person… even though now i actually can imagine this working…

I think Web3 often lacked dev resources, especially early on, so the bar was kinda low 😃 So it wasn’t always about exceptional skills - more about social engineering and building some form of reputation (like being active and friendly contributor on GitHub). I feel like companies are more cautious now when it comes to completely anon devs- as they probably always should’ve been. Yeah, I think being completely open with your own team is an important thing and you have a valid concern
