Ok I’m late to the party but just listening to @boysclub pod for first time & loved if! Toady gave an interview on the Nouns fork which was great. But it was the second half that really got me. Great discussion about what it’s like to tell people you work in crypto. And all the feelings around that. ⤵️

Would love to know —anyone else get anxious talking to normie friends/family about what you’re working on in web3? How DOES that make you feel? Pod link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/boys-club/id1616327892?i=1000628904479

Every time I talk to normal people about my job the reaction is either confusion, total rejection, or my mum who goes you really need to do something more meaningful with your life. Latter actually hits me the most because I do question the meaningfulness/purpose quite a bit these days. The rest I can cope with.

💔 I feel you. Meaning & purpose are so important. Do you find meaningfulness in crypto in general but just not your job? How can we help?

I do find some meaning in crypto in general, especially if we use it for things outside of financial engineering and self-enrichment schemes. Funding public goods, open-sourcing science, these are all things I believe as huge positives. Just my current employer seems more interested in token no go down.😅

and it is a pattern I've seen repeatedly - it does make me wonder imagine we just used all the money instead to fund a library. Initiatives to educate people on finances, or build hubs where people from different backgrounds can come together. Would this not be the greater good.

Ah gotcha. If your values don't align with your employers that can be so discouraging 😖 I'm sorry to hear it. Agree with you about the positive use cases. I've seen a bunch of interesting education efforts. @kbc has talked about some, and @christin is working on some interesting things too
