Fantastic essay on the value of reading old books by @naomiii I'm currently reading Plato's Republic. To be honest, I have to say that I find it difficult to read old books. I am someone who likes to read very fast and many books at the same time (this comes from my childhood where we read as many books as possible on vacation for the competition). What I have discovered is that you have to read old books in many small sections unlike today where you read a book in a few sittings. I also do this with the Bible where I only ever read sections.

I saw somewhere that dickens for example published just a chapter every other week. Which makes a lot of sense to me. That's probably a great speed at which to read some of these. I'm also someone reading multiple books simultaneously 🙃

Andy Weir’s The Martian was originally published on a weekly / monthly schedule - I like the idea of this and also read multiple books at the same time (also depends on time of day - more fiction in evening)

I know that the stories of Sherlock Holmes were first published in the newspaper every other day or week and later published in book form. It could be that this was similar with Dickens.
