π― In liberal-left spaces, the pepe meme is an instant turn-off. It's associated with alt-right trolls. And there are a lot of people who won't try to move past that association to get to know the community here better because there have been so very many toxic interactions with people touting pepe.

Not to mention the toxic interactions with crypto / nft people, especially in 2021-'22. Associate the two together and you have the perception of a cultural dumpster fire to be avoided at all costs.

I've been very clear when talking about this place elsewhere that crypto is still heavily dominated by people who are right-wing, though thankfully, this place doesn't seem to have the toxic polarization that other platforms have, and I've been able to have actual conversations with people who have opposing viewpoints, which has been nice. And while I don't personally have a kneejerk reaction to pepe, I still have had to get used to seeing it in my feed.

imagine if the alt-right culturally appropriated Bart Simpson and we were having this conversation about Bart, I would still love Bart Simpson and think the alt-right were pieces of shit and I would still post images of Bart Simpsonβit has never mattered to me what anyoneβs incorrect opinions were on anything

So your approach then is: NEVER use pepe for anything because ONLY right wing idiots can use it, therefore the only exposure leftists will ever have to it is by way of right wingers so we will then never wean them off that ignorant interpretation of the Pepe meme?
