If we had an opt-in "read receipt" mode, a la Instagram Stories or group chats, for casts, would you turn it on?

I don't know it seems a little intrusive from the reader perspective. I don't want people thinking I saw their content and didn't care about it because I didn't like or engage. I would on the other hand like a more accurate count of how many views the cast has gotten

Sure. The question was what if you have to choose. With accuracy, you at least get things right on average. High precision but low accuracy gives you a false sense of certainty.
