I experienced heat edema for the first time yesterday during a hike. The temperature was 103°F, and around 4.5 miles into the hike, my fingers swelled up and looked like hotdogs. I was out for about three hours and drank around two liters of water. The swelling went down once I got into the shade and cooled off a bit.

Heat edema can be scary but is usually reversible with rest and hydration
