This is dangerous precedent. We should not normalize invasions and gaslight the invaded.

What’s the gaslighting specifically? I’m by no means an authority on this topic, and ChatGPT is wrong all the time, but it does seem like elections have been suspended and freedom of press curtailed

Ah, that wasn’t referenced in the OP. Is Elon’s statement gaslighting?

I think the whole elon conversation has to be understood in the context of Trump's statements, and them legitimizing criticism on zelensky. I don't have an opinion if that's true, I just think that's how to interpret what is being said here. I don't know exactly what Trump meant blaming the invasion on Ukraine.

Gotcha. It’s a complex situation. Some elements are more nuanced than others. IMO what’s not nuanced is wartime should not interrupt elections and free press, otherwise sitting leadership has an incentive to be in a war. I haven’t seen evidence to suggest Elon was lying about curbs on free press and suspension of elections. Just about everything beyond that is far more nuanced and I don’t have enough info from primary sources to have a strong opinion strongly held.

No those statements are true. Elections in wartime aren't unusual but I think it gets substantially more difficult if you are under active invasion, realistically you cannot have a fair election when people can't move freely, are actively fighting, enemy is targeting civilians, etc.

Yeah I think you need international community to mediate a ceasefire for the election I think it would be logical for the world to support this if it was something Ukraine signaled interest in. Also don’t think they’re obligated to if just following laws that were written before the invasion.
