I know ghiblifying everything is fun, but it really showcases how if we don’t have effective IP protection for individuals by default we’ve ceded all value from creative generation to pre-existing capital owners with distribution + legal Also we basically turn all artists into interns working “for exposure”

Historically, there was no copyright and all art was like this by default. Bern convention was not created until 19th century. Since then e.g. Disney has worked hard to extend copyright and kill creativity in the name of big studio profits.

Surely there’s a middle ground between the era when we didn’t need copyright at all bc it was fundamentally impossible to rip off an artist’s creativity at scale and overbearing copyright trolls like Disney suing everybody into submission
