The main thing I believe about the current skilled immigration debate: The H-1B visa is a very bad implementation of a very good idea I don’t know if the USA has the political will to build a better merit-based immigration system (the current system is from 1952) That’s fundamentally what we ought to be discussing IMO

saw an interesting idea somewhere where you just auction off x amount of h1bs per year to companies merit and economic value not perfectly aligned ofc and I imagine there would be ways it could go wrong but it would certainly be more productive policy than the current implementation

Would prefer something less reflexive to the business cycle Points based systems that quantify and set a merit threshold for entry are interesting
