Lion Rock Sigiriya, Sri Lanka
The 200m high Lion Rock, where the ancient city on the plateau is located, is the result of volcanic processes and magma emissions that occurred about 2 million years ago, as well as subsequent erosion.
The rock is surrounded by a wide moat and ramparts along the entire perimeter, 5 gates lead into its territory. The ancient city of Sigiriya includes a palace on the top, buildings at the foot of the rock and gardens in the southern part.
