By December 30, all exchanges in the European Union must delist tokens that are not compliant with the new MiCA regulations. Currently, Tether’s USDT token does not comply with MiCA requirements and will be delisted. Tether has not yet received the necessary e-money license required by MiCA. The regulation requires stablecoin issuers to back their tokens with reserves held in an independent bank and to monitor transactions for payment purposes.

Ripple plans to launch a new stablecoin called RLUSD, backed by the US dollar, tomorrow. The RLUSD stablecoin will be issued on both the Ethereum and XRP Ledger blockchains and will initially be available on select global exchanges. There are plans to expand to additional platforms in the coming weeks. The company will employ an independent auditing firm to create certificates of RLUSD reserve assets, which it will then issue on a monthly basis. The new chairman of the US House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, French Hill, has said that his top priority in the next 100 days will be to create a framework for regulating digital assets, as well as focusing on stablecoins. Hill has worked on passing crypto-related bills in the past, including one to regulate stablecoins and another focused on market structure. He has also criticized the approach of US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler towards cryptocurrencies.
