When there's abundant mediocre content available in a subscription, you won't spend the $ to support (i.e. the DVD sales) good movies.

Free and easy > cost and friction

Unfortunately this is the case a lot of the time.

People claim to want original stories but at the end of the day are more than happy to not bother touching the remote when Netflix rolls the next episode of whatever slop.

Very true, if I can't pirate the movie I probably won't watch it. I actually end up watching pretty unique stuff though so idk... I just watched this cool old chinese movie
