It's an open data protocol, it doesn't make sense to have client enforced blocks because anyone can just build a new client. (Contrast this with BlueSky which has the same quandary but took the other bent because they are larping to be Twitter.)

As someone following you mainly because discussing content I disagree with interests me, and that needs specimens— I do think it would be sensible to have profile badge that can be set to “discuss me” or “do not disturb.”

There is nothing wrong with openly being able to say “Hey, I know I can be made into disagreement porn but that’s not *welcome* so please choose others with my takes who do welcome that.”
