Not sure I agree with this take. It's an extremely broad brush to paint over anyone that doesn't think it was "brilliant". 

Comparing it to e.g. stand up comedy, it's the equivalent of saying "if you didn't like Bill Burr's last stand up, stand up might not be your thing". 
I can: 
- not like Bill Burr as a comedian, bcs I'm too young (or too old) for him (and his topics, his delivery, his "schtick") and think the older generations (Pryor, Murphy, etc) were better,
- not like his last stand up bcs he objectively bombed (which is a thing that happens to comedians),
- generally not like Bill Burr. 

Neither of those means I don't like stand up comedy or that it is not my thing. 

For the record, I like hip hop, I have no specific feelings about KL (good or bad, but don't actively listen to him), and thought the show was mid. It was not a (for a lack of a better word) spectacle. 

I do think having a diss track at a halftime show is monumental, so I applaud him for that.

You can appreciate and respect something without liking it. 

Example: I can’t stand the Beatles but I know that their music and contributions to music are brilliant. 

I might call their music “mid” in jest,  but if I seriously assess it that way, it’s my lack of understanding that’s at fault, not the Beatles. 

Also, if you don’t appreciate OR like Bill Burr, comedy might not be your thing. 😉
