Have been meeting lots of product designers at highly funded + successful companies who don't do any (Figma) prototyping, but just create mocks 🤔 How the heck does this work? As product designers, it's our job to come up with solutions to problems + prototyping is key to defining the UX…

You can “test” mocks even if they don’t make a standalone prototype. I personally wouldn’t skip it, but linking screens in Figma isn’t a necessary step

Beyond user testing but rather standard practice and covering all the bases of the many flows in a product as well as documenting it clearly so the next designer that comes along can pick things up more easily.

Also, I agree in that you can test with anything from a sketch to a prototype. Testing comes in many forms and it depends on the purpose of why user testing is being conducted in the first place—can range from validating brand to IA to fully-fledged solutions.
