If you're not enjoying a book 25% of the way in just give it up. Life is too short you don't need to plough through this. I have a teardrop tattoo for every book I abandoned in this way.

but you should 100% judge it by the first chapter

I think if the info in the book doesn’t help you solve anything today - it’s useless pretty much

The ones that can shift your mindset for better can work but you have to be looking for it to work in the first place
